FBI LITTLE ROCK
COMMUNITY OUTREACH
The mission of the Little Rock FBI's Community Outreach Program is to support
the FBI's national priorities by developing education and awareness initiatives
within Arkansas, and building lasting partnerships between the FBI and
members of the general public and various organizations within our great
state. To further this mission, the Little Rock Division has implemented
the following programs and initiatives:
• The Little Rock FBI's Citizens' Academy
• The Little Rock FBI's Citizens' Alumni Association
• The Arkansas Civil Rights Working Group
• The Little Rock FBI's Youth Outreach Initiatives
• The Director's Community Leadership Award
CITIZENS' ACADEMY
The FBI Citizens' Academy offers business, civic, religious, and community
leaders located within the Little Rock Field Office's territory the opportunity
to learn about the mission and resources of the FBI. Since the implementation
of the Little Rock Field Office's Citizens' Academy in 1999, this program has
met with substantial success and continues to grow in interest and impact.
The Citizens' Academy is conducted once each year and consists of eight sessions
over a seven week period commencing in March. Classroom sessions are conducted
in the Little Rock Field Office on consecutive Tuesday evenings from 6:00 p.m
to 9:00 p.m. Dinner is included during each of these evenings. One Saturday
session is also conducted at the Field Office's firearms range. The core curriculum
includes an explanation of the organizational structure of the FBI, an in depth
look at our investigative programs as well as an interesting discussion of
closed cases, and much more.
Candidates for the FBI Citizens'
Academy must meet the following criteria:
Live and work within the Little Rock Field Office's territory ( State of Arkansas
);
Be at least 21 years of age;
Have no prior felony or serious misdemeanor convictions;
Consent to a background investigation sufficient to justify an interim security
clearance; Have an active interest and involvement in community affairs and
current issues.

Academy, please contact

CITIZENS' ACADEMY ALUMNI ASSOCIATION
The Citizens' Academy Alumni Association is comprised of graduates from all
Little Rock FBI Citizens' Academy classes and is a valuable asset to the Little
Rock FBI's Community Outreach Program. The Citizens' Academy Alumni Association
acts as an ambassador for the FBI through outreach efforts as well as assists
with each new Citizens' Academy class.
YOUTH OUTREACH INITIATIVES
The Little Rock FBI provides presentations on a variety of relevant topics
to elementary, middle, and high school students throughout Arkansas. Some of
the topics presented include Internet safety, saying no to drugs, the importance
of being responsible citizens and making good choices, and career opportunities
in the FBI. Our youth outreach initiatives are designed to reach a diverse
group of children, including those living in impoverished and high-crime areas.
Our goal is to help Arkansas students raise their expectations and improve
their school performance.
ARKANSAS CIVIL RIGHTS WORKING GROUP
The Arkansas Civil Rights Working Group (ACRWG) was formed in July 2006 and
meets quarterly at various locations throughout Arkansas. The mission of the
ACRWG is to enhance liaison and to build trust between victim communities and
law enforcement agencies and to educate the public regarding civil rights violations
and the prosecution of these violations. The goal is to reduce the incidence
of civil rights crimes by increasing the reporting of civil rights violations
to law enforcement and to improve law enforcement's response to those reports.
If interested in joining or obtaining more information about the ACRWG, please
contact Supervisory Special Agent Steven F. Burroughs at (501) 221-9100.
DIRECTOR'S COMMUNITY LEADERSHIP AWARD
Since 1990, the FBI has publicly recognized the achievements of individuals
and organizations within the area of drug and/or violence education and prevention
by presenting them with the Director's Community Leadership Award. Each year,
one individual or organization in each of the FBI's 56 field offices is selected
whose achievements in terrorism, crime, drug, gang, and/or violence prevention
and education have had an exemplary impact on the community. The Little Rock
Field Office annually presents this award to that deserving individual or organization
in an official ceremony held at our office.
